In this bookbinding workshop you'll learn traditional and contemporary techniques using specialized tools and quality materials. You'll create your own decorative papers and use them for bookbinding in this workshop. In the 4 sessions you'll learn how to make: decorative papers, unique folios, one-sheet books and a traditional hardcover book. This workshop will give you an understanding of the fundamental structures of bookbinding. With these techniques you'll be able to present work, make notebooks, prepare gifts or create artist's books.
The aim is for everyone to leave the workshop with their own books and the technical knowledge to continue bookbinding without assistance. At Fica, where we have a range of bookbinding tools and equipment, you can continue to explore the world of bookbinding.

Program and Methodology
These sessions will be totally practical. We will develop specific projects throughout the workshop that will give you the knowledge to become autonomous in the process. Afterwards, you can always come to Fica to train in Craft Gym mode.
Class 1 - Decorative papers: Paste papers
Lesson 2 - Pamphlets: Canoe stitching, one-sheet books, dos-à-dos binding
Class 3 - Traditional: Single folio with hard cover in half cloth
Class 4 - Binding of several folios: Covered in flexible paper

You don't need any previous knowledge of the subject, nor do you need to bring any materials.
The workshop will be held in English and Portuguese.

In this series of bookbinding workshops you will learn traditional and contemporary techniques, using specialist tools and quality materials. Learn to make: paste papers, pamphlets, traditional hard cover and limp paper laced binding. The workshop covers the basics of bookbinding styles all of which are ideal for presenting work, sketchbooks, gifts, or as the basis for artist books.
Everyone will leave the course with their own collection of books and the skills to make more at home using minimal equipment.
Program and methodology
Week 1: Decorative papers - paste papers or hand dyed papers
Week 2: Pamphlets: Single section / two sections with cover
Week 3: Traditional hard cover 1/2 binding - single section
Week 4: Limp paper laced binding - multi-section
