During this 4-day course you will learn how to build your own hollow wooden surfboard. The boards are made out of paulownia and birch wood and then made waterproof with bio-sourced epoxy making them as light as foam surfboards, even more resistant and definitely much more sustainable.

At the end of the workshop you will go home tired and happy, with the hairs full of dust, the hands full of glue and your dream shape surfboard under your arm. Taking the first wave with your board will probably bring you very close to pure join and happiness!

As surfers, besides being a very rewarding process, building a wooden surfboard closes a bit this paradoxical gap between our love for the ocean and putting more plastic and mass produced surf products in the water.

How does it work?

Minimum one week before the workshop starts you will need to decide the shape of the board you want to build. Basically any shapes are possible (fish, mini simmons, hull, mini mal, egg, longboard...). The surfboards are designed on a 3D software, so the shape can be very personalized, depending on your skills, surf style and type of waves.

You will start with choosing the wood, assemble and glue it, shape and sand it. No particular skills are needed, the tools used are basic and mostly manual woodworking tools.

At the end of the workshop the surfboard will still need to be glassed to make it waterproof. This can't be done during the workshop because of the long curing times. Two options are available here : either it is done for you on the week following the workshop or you receive all material and knowledge to do it home.

The leash plugs and fin plugs/boxes will also be provided. But the price doesn't include the fins. If you want glassed-on fins an extra fee will be asked.

Prices

The price includes all material until the finished surfboard and depends on the length of the board you want to built.

Price per foot of length is 135€ and decrease for longer boards. A 5'0'' mini Simmons would be 675€ and up to 1100€ for a 9'4'' longboard.
