Description

Nerikomi is a Japanese ceramic technique that allows you to create patterns through the specific position of different colored pastes. In this workshop we will color pastes using dyes and oxides and learn how to combine and draw different patterns. We will create a small display, using Nerikomi slivers, and a simple piece, both of which will be fired and glazed.

No previous knowledge is required. Attendance at the Ceramics Workshop - Manual Forming, prior to this workshop, is not compulsory.

Practical Exercise

Getting to know different methods of staining pastes, both atomized and plastic, and their differences. Introduction to the construction of Nerikomi patterns, from the more traditional to the more experimental. Each participant will create a small display and build a piece using Nerikomi slivers. All the pieces produced will be fired, glazed and fired again by FICA.

Program Content

• Theoretical introduction to the use of colorants and oxide in pastes
• Execution of different Nerikomi patterns: Ichimatsu, stripes, marbled
• Creation of standardized mini samples
• Creating a simple piece using a landing mould, using a standardized ballast.

Firing and glazing - all the pieces produced will be fired, glazed and fired again by us (they will have to be picked up later on a date to be agreed)

Cancellation of Registration

IMPORTANT - Cancellations/postponements/refunds of registrations (including gift voucher registrations) are only permitted if you give us at least 7 days' notice of the start of the workshop. Any cancellation with less than 7 days' notice, we will do our best to fill your place, however, a refund or postponement can only be made if your place is filled.

If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.
