Once you've learned the main hand-forming techniques, there's still a long way to go in the world of ceramics. The Ceramics Workshop dedicated to Ceramic Decoration and Coatings will cover decorative techniques in all stages of the paste, from the raw state to glazing.

Starting with the construction of small tiles made by you, throughout the sessions we will go through the various stages of textures, decoration and ceramic coating processes: engobes, water paints and glazing, ending with the set of pieces that will become your showcase of decorative techniques.

No previous knowledge is required. Attendance at the Ceramics Workshop - Manual Forming, prior to this workshop, is not compulsory.

Program content

Class 1. Techniques for decorating raw clay:  in the plastic state - incision, shaving, gluing, stamping, marbling, lace, Nerikomi, and also in raw clay, but in the leather state - incision, gluing, stamping, perforation

Class 2. Techniques for decorating raw clay with engobes: Scouring, Sgraffito, Inlay/Mishima, Sponge decal, Piping and Reserves

Class 3. Techniques for decorating shellac with ceramic mines, glazing processes and techniques for decorating raw glass with water-based paints, including washing, stressing, majolica and soap bubbles.

Material included

White paste (earthenware), engobes, paints, ceramic mines and basic, colored and reactive glazes. Includes a wooden box, screen-printed in the workshop, for storing the tiles.

Waiting list

Cancellations may occur. If there is a cancellation for this workshop, we will let you know.

Cancellation of Registration

IMPORTANT - Cancellations/postponements/refunds of registrations (including gift voucher registrations) are only permitted if you give us at least 7 days' notice of the start of the workshop. Any cancellation with less than 7 days' notice, we will do our best to fill your place, however, a refund or postponement can only be made if your place is filled.
If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.

Covid-19

According to Decree-Law No. 78-A/2021, the use of masks remains mandatory for educational establishments.

In addition, at the entrance (and often inside the workshop) you should disinfect your hands with an alcohol-based solution, which will be available inside the workshop. In the workshop, whenever possible, respect social distancing in order to keep a safe distance from the other trainees.
