Description

Decorating with engobes allows us to explore the vast world of ceramics in a more illustrative and creative way. In this workshop we will learn about the properties of engobes and the ideal state in which to use them in our pieces. Starting with the construction of ballast pieces, different decoration techniques with engobes will be discussed, including sgraffito, mishima, decal and marbling. We'll create a small showcase and build a hand-scale piece to decorate with your favorite decoration.

No previous knowledge is required. Attendance at the Flash Ceramics Workshop and/or Ceramics Workshop - Manual Forming before this workshop is not compulsory.

Practical Exercise

Using the ballast technique, we will make several small tiles to experiment with and test the various techniques for decorating with engobes. In addition to the display, each participant will build a piece from a mould to decorate using the method of their choice. All the pieces will be fired and glazed by FICA and will have to be collected afterwards.

Program Content

• Theoretical introduction to the use of engobes in ceramics
• Making mini samples for later decoration + specific piece
• Decoration techniques with engobes to be applied to the mini-lastras: sgraffito, Mishima, decal, marbling, piping, reservations and staining.
• Decorating a piece using a technique of your choice

White paste (earthenware)
Engobes
Firing and glazing - all the pieces produced will be fired, glazed and fired again by us (they will have to be picked up later on a date to be agreed)

Cancellation of Registration

Any cancellation with less than 7 days' notice, we will do our best to fill your place, however, a refund or postponement can only be made if your place is filled.

If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.
