Natural Dyeing and Dyeing Workshop

In the Natural Dyeing and Dyeing Workshop we will give color to textile fibers using natural dyes obtained from dye plants. In this workshop we will prepare the textile fibers together, from the very beginning, from washing and mordanting. How to prepare cold and hot dye baths and dye using different plants, roots, bark, but also food-waste. Experiments will also be carried out with color-modifying agents and a showcase will be created.

No previous knowledge is required.

Program Content

Lesson 1 - Duration: 1h30 (November 2 from 18h30 - 20h)

Introduction to Natural Dyeing - basic principles
Types of fibers and their characteristics: cotton / linen, silk and wool
Fiber preparation
Washing
Pre-butting with tannins (cellulose fibers)

Class 2 - Duration: 2h (November 9th from 18h30 - 20h30)

Hot and cold mordanting processes - different for each type of fiber
Dyeing experiences without mordants
How to make a showcase

Class 3 - Duration: 3h (November 16 from 18h30 - 21h30)

Washing fibers and preparing for dyeing
Preparing baths
Dyeing with various plants, roots and bark
Basic introduction to the Tie&Die technique
Color modifying agents
Showcase organization

Waiting list

Cancellations may occur. If there is a cancellation for this workshop, we will let you know.

Cancellation of Registration

IMPORTANT - Cancellations/postponements/refunds of registrations (including gift voucher registrations) are only permitted if you give us at least 7 days' notice of the start of the workshop. Any cancellation with less than 7 days' notice, we will do our best to fill your place, however, a refund or postponement can only be made if your place is filled.
If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.

Covid-19

According to Decree-Law No. 78-A/2021, the use of masks remains mandatory for educational establishments.

In addition, at the entrance (and often inside the workshop) you should disinfect your hands with an alcohol-based solution, which will be available inside the workshop. In the workshop, whenever possible, respect social distancing in order to keep a safe distance from the other trainees.
