Screen Printing
Screen printing workshops take place on weekdays and/or Saturdays. We offer training from 3 to 9 hours.
The workshops require no prior knowledge.
In the screen printing workshops, we provide a comprehensive learning experience of the printing process, from start to finish. We explore two methods: the use of photosensitive emulsion and stencil, focusing on two different substrates, paper and fabric, depending on the specific theme of each workshop.
ON PAPER
In these screen printing workshops, you learn the process in general. The Flash Workshop is a brief introduction to screen printing, but we go through the whole process.
The Workshop is more complete: as well as learning the process, you'll print two final artworks, with follow-up.
At least one of these workshops, with a few exceptions, takes place once a month.
The Flash Screen Printing Workshop is an introductory workshop to screen printing. It allows you to learn all about the process, the necessary tools and the technique of printing on paper. In this workshop you will learn the main steps of the screen printing process, as well as carrying out a printing exercise.
In this workshop we will print a mini zine together, double-sided, using two types of printing, with a stencil and through screen exposure. You don't need to bring any drawings or materials, as we'll prepare a collective final artwork using drawing materials and collages.

In the Screen Printing - Paper Workshop, you'll learn how to print your own editions on paper. You'll learn the process of screen printing, from preparing the matrix (stencil method and exposing the frame) to recovering the frame. Throughout the sessions you'll use screen printing frames with different sizes and threads (72F/90F) and understand the type of application that corresponds to each one. We'll explain the types of paper to print on, but also the appropriate inks. At FICA we use water-based paper inks suitable for screen printing.
Class 1. Introduction to screen printing, from preparing the photolitho / Emulsifying, exposing and recovering the screen / Alternative printing methods: stencil;
Lesson 2. Printing a final artwork in 1 color / Overlay exercise with the same layer - stain / Numbered and signed edition of 10 copies;
Class 3. Final artwork printed in 2 colors / Exercise in registration and greater detail / Numbered and signed edition of 15 copies.

A partir de Abril, a Oficina terá apenas 2 sessões.
FABRIC / PAPER
In addition to the workshops that cover this process in general, there are other screen printing workshops that take place less regularly.
We have workshops dedicated to a specific technique or substrate. From using our screen printing kit to different printing techniques. As well as learning how to make natural inks to apply to fabric and paper using screen printing.
Screen printing is one of the most widely used techniques for printing fabric and allows you to effectively duplicate different types of artwork. In the Screen Printing on Fabric Workshops, using more specific tools such as the printing carousel (for perfect registrations or pieces already sewn) or preparing the set for a meter print, we'll share everything you need to know about the technique, from start to finish. From inks to screens, emulsion to photolithographs, as well as types of fabric.
In the Screen Printing on Fabric Workshop we will print a meter of fabric together using the screen exposure method. And print individual pieces of fabric using the original stencil method. Pre-prepared shapes and cut-outs will be used, so you don't need to bring any drawings or ideas.

In this workshop we will use our screen printing kit to learn the process of screen printing using the stencil method. The Screen Printing Kit includes a manual explaining the process, but this is the ideal workshop if you want to learn step by step accompanied by our trainer, taking advantage of advice and tips.
As well as learning the process, we will print a final two-color artwork on paper and tote bags (we include 2 tote bags in addition to the kit). The aim of the workshop will be to gain the necessary knowledge to continue printing independently.

In the Monotype Screen Printing Workshop we will explore a technique that combines the best of hand painting with the graphic finish of screen printing. With it, you can explore overlapping colors, textures and brushstrokes in a controlled way, creating unique pieces with an artistic and expressive look.
This approach stands out for the creative freedom it offers, allowing you to work directly on the canvas in an intuitive and experimental way. In addition, it is a versatile technique that can be applied to different materials and surfaces, ideal for those looking to explore new forms of artistic expression with an impactful visual finish.
We'll experiment and create from a curation of materials and tools available to inspire your creative process.
