Ceramics Workshop<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hand-forming + Decoration + Glazing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are preparing to move to a new space in 2026. This workshop will take place in the new studio at Rua Bernardo Lima 10C.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Description<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In this Ceramics Workshop you will learn how to build pieces using the four hand-forming techniques: Slab, Pinch Pot, Coil and Carved Solid Block. As well as a theoretical introduction to the types of pastes and the process of transforming clay into ceramics, we will cover some decoration techniques on raw clay, using engobes and textures, as well as decoration on chacota. Finally, we will learn how to glaze the pieces. The shape of the pieces is directly linked to the type of techniques we'll be covering and means that at the end* you'll take with you four (or more) ready-to-use utilitarian pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No previous knowledge is required.
We recommend that you have your nails clipped to make the modeling process easier. It is also advisable to wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty.
We have aprons available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minimum age for participation: 16 years \/ Accompanied by an adult (two entries): 14 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Class 1.
<\/strong>Theoretical introduction to ceramics: types of paste, firing, decorations and glazes
Practical exercise in manual construction techniques I: Slab and Pinch Pot
Lesson 2.
<\/strong>Practical exercise in manual construction techniques II: Coils and Carving
Class 3.
<\/strong>Finishing and gluing
Introduction to techniques for decorating raw clay with engobes and textures
Class 4.<\/strong>
Decoration on jack-o-lanterns.
Glazing process for all the pieces made<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*All the pieces produced will be re-fired by us after the training. They will have to be picked up later, on a date to be agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMPORTANT - Cancellation\/postponement\/refund of registrations (including gift voucher registrations) is only allowed if you give us at least 7 days' notice before the start of the workshop. If you cancel less than 7 days before the start of the workshop, we will do our best to fill your place, however, you can only postpone the workshop (or put the amount in a gift voucher) if your place is filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.
