Woodwork
Joinery is one of our main techniques, in addition to ceramics e screen printingTherefore, the woodworking workshops are regular. They take place every month and the times vary from month to month.
weekdays - saturdays
morning - afternoon - after work
Woodworking workshops take place on weekdays and/or Saturdays. We offer training from 3 to 9 hours.
The workshops require no prior knowledge.
In Carpentry you will learn the art of transforming wood into useful objects, the work methodology inherent in the trade, the techniques according to what you are going to build and the function of various carpentry tools.
In woodworking workshops focusing on manual techniques, you'll acquire the skill of transforming wood into objects. You'll be introduced to the work methodology characteristic of the craft, learn techniques adapted to what we plan to build and understand the role played by various carpentry tools.
The Flash Workshop and the Workshop are the best place to start. The Carpentry Workshop is more complete (3 sessions) and we build a small bench, while the Carpentry Flash Workshop is more introductory (3 hours) and the focus is on a hand-scaled piece.
At Spoon Carving we dedicate ourselves exclusively to the art of carving a wooden spoon, using various carpentry tools.
While in Enzo Mari's workshop, we paid homage to the Italian designer by interpreting his Autoprogetazzione project.
The Flash Carpentry Workshops take place every month and are suitable for beginners who have never had contact with carpentry tools. In this workshop you will learn some of the basic techniques, hand tools, machines and work methodology inherent in carpentry. You will build or sculpt a small-scale piece. You will also learn the function and handling of the vast glossary of hand tools that we have in the workshop, such as saws and chisels.
In the Flash Carpentry Workshop, after a theoretical introduction, you will put into practice some of the principles of carpentry and carry out an exercise to build a small piece of wood by snapping it together.

Like the Flash Workshop, the Carpentry Workshop is suitable for beginners who have never had contact with carpentry tools, but with more sessions and a different object.
After a theoretical introduction and practical exercises in cutting, fitting, carving and hollowing, you will build an object (bench) designed by us. The making of this object brings together various joinery techniques and is an ideal exercise for your first contact with this craft.
We'll teach you how to interpret and plan the project, measure and mark the wood. And then put into practice the principles of joinery and exercises previously carried out, applied to this specific object.
Class 1. Presentation of the workshop's objective and methodology / Types of wood and their applications / Introduction to hand tools for measuring, cutting, roughing and finishing / Introduction to cutting machines / Practical exercises using hand techniques for cutting, fitting, notching and hollowing;
Lesson 2. Object construction: Plan, measure and mark / Sawing: manual / Carving;
Class 3. Constructing the object: Preparing the faces / Fitting, joining and splicing / Finalizing the project.

In this 4-hour workshop, you'll turn a small block of wood into a spoon. To do this, you'll learn how to use the various tools we have in our woodworking workshop, such as the chisel, rasp and gouge.

In one of our woodworking workshops, we interpreted the assembly project conceived by Enzo Mari. Calculating, measuring, sawing and building the Sedia 1 chair, which will end up going home with you.
Enzo Mari was an Italian designer who shaped the way we think about furniture construction.
'He belongs to the small and select group of Italian architects and designers, or rather Italian architect-designers, who contributed to the reconstruction of post-war Italy, but also to making Italian design a benchmark, a standard, a brand, a design, a myth. But you were also part of those who questioned, provoked and lately witnessed the transformation and decline of an idea of design: yours. (excerpt from Frederico Duarte in 'Expectations and experiences')
Interpreting the assembly project (Autoprogetazzione - Enzo Mari)
Calculate how many profiles you need (adjust dimensions if necessary)
Measuring and marking using specific tools
Handling miter saws, precision arms and sanders
In this edition of Sedia, we won't be using nails, but screws and covers to hide them

At FICA, the woodworking workshops are an introductory exploration into the world of woodworking, covering everything from the most basic concepts to the realization of specific projects. They are designed to cater for those taking their first steps as well as those who have no prior knowledge. These workshops offer a variety of techniques and applications, mainly manual, guaranteeing an engaging and progressive experience
The Flash Carpentry Workshops are the ideal entry point for beginners and take place on a monthly basis. These workshops provide a practical introduction to the fundamental techniques and hand tools available in the workshop. Participants have the opportunity to create small pieces while familiarizing themselves with the extensive glossary of tools.
The Carpentry Workshop expands on this experience, offering more sessions and the opportunity to build a more complex object, such as a bench (designed by FICA). This workshop covers everything from project interpretation to execution, providing a comprehensive understanding of some joinery techniques.
The Spoon Carving Workshop is an immersion in the process of carving wooden spoons. Over the course of four hours, participants explore the choice of wood and suitable tools, learning how to handle chisels, rasps and gouges to transform a block of wood into a unique spoon, with guidance on aftercare.
The Enzo Mari Workshop pays homage to the well-known Italian designer, challenging participants to interpret and build the Sedia 1 chair. This workshop stands out for its practical and intensive application, in a format developed specifically for the DIY spirit, from calculation to execution, using specific tools such as miter saws, and incorporating the absence of nails in favor of screws and covers for concealment.
In short, the woodworking workshops at FICA offer an informative and practical educational journey, from an introduction to basic techniques to the construction of small pieces of furniture and utilities. These trainer-led workshops provide a general understanding and the opportunity to develop practical skills in the field of carpentry.
If you know someone who likes to get their hands dirty, you can offer them a workshop from our calendar or a gift certificate valid for any training.
In addition to scheduled training sessions, we also run private workshops / team building with our main trades: Ceramics, Screen Printing and Joinery.
