Description

In the Hardcover Bookbinding Workshop, we’ll learn the fundamental principles of bookbinding and build a notebook from scratch, exploring the different stages of the process, from preparing the block to constructing and assembling the cover.

Each participant will prepare a book block consisting of white sheets of paper, sew it together, and construct a rigid cover made of cardboard and a spine, then finish the cover and secure the different elements together.

You will practice folding, sewing, and assembly techniques, learning how to prepare the materials and create a durable, sturdy, and functional bookbinding, with attention to structure, alignment, and finishing touches.

No prior knowledge of bookbinding is required.

Program Content

Preparation and organization of the inner pages, including alignment and marking of the binding seam;
Punching, stitching, and spine preparation;
Construction of the hardcover structure, including the assembly of the cardboard panels and the spine;
Covering (plain and decorative papers) and cover assembly;
Binding the endpapers to the cover;
Complete production of a hardcover book.

Material

All the materials needed to conduct the workshop are included.

Cancellation of registration

IMPORTANT - Cancellation/postponement/refund of registrations (including gift voucher registrations) is only allowed if you give us at least 7 days' notice before the start of the workshop. If you cancel less than 7 days before the start of the workshop, we will do our best to fill your place, however, you can only postpone the workshop (or put the amount in a gift voucher) if your place is filled.

If a trainee fails to attend one or more training sessions, FICA is not responsible for replacing or compensating for that session.

Number of graduates

Minimum number: 4pax / Maximum number: 6pax
According to our terms, the training may be canceled if the minimum number of trainees is not met - Find out more at terms and conditions from the website.
Minimum age for participation: 18 years old / Accompanied by an adult (two registrations): 16 years old.

The workshop is held in Portuguese. If you don't speak Portuguese, we will try to translate in English. But understand that Portuguese will be the main language.
